FREEPORT, LI, NY – Ramapo met Farmingdale State University for the first time in the teams four-year existence. The Rams are perennial number one team in the ACHA Atlantic Region. They have gone to Nationals 8 of the last 10 years. A victory or solid showing would elevate Ramapo’s place in the Atlantic Region rankings. The first period was exciting end-to-end hockey. The Roadrunners drew first blood. Farmingdale gave up the puck deep in their defensive zone and Kyle DeBel picked up the loose puck and buried it just under the crossbar. The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead into the locker room. The second period started as the first with close-checking end-to-end action. However, at 13:30 the roof fell in. The Rams scored four unanswered goals in a span of 3 minutes and 22 seconds – two goals on a power play and one goal shorthanded. Gary Ragusa got Ramapo back on the board scoring on a power play at 18:50 from Derek Sabato. However, Farmingdale scored their second short handed goal just 35 seconds later. Ragusa scored his second goal (unassisted) 5 seconds later at 19:30. Farmingdale lead 5-3 after two periods. From a first period where only one goal was scored and two penalties were assessed, the second period produced 7 goals and 9 penalties. The third period opened with a Ramapo score before fans could get back to their seats. Bobby Spetz scored at 0:33 to cut the Rams lead to 5-4. Bobby Mulligan assisted on the goal. From that point on Ramapo took themselves right out of the game. Farmingdale scored at 4:33 and 6:31 to raise their lead to 7-4. Still a respectable score at that point. There was certainly plenty of time for Ramapo to launch a comeback. However, after the last goal, Ramapo stopped playing. From 11:45 to 12:18, a span of 33 seconds, the Rams scored 3 goals to extend their lead to 10-4. Ramapo normally rallies when down but that was not the case in the third period of this game. The team needed to put this game behind them. The next day, the number two team in the Atlantic Region, Fairfield University, was coming to Ice Vault. The best way to avenge this terrible outing was to take down Fairfield.
