MONSEY, NY – The Ramapo Roadrunners took their home opener and first game of the season in a 4-3 victory over the Muhlenberg Mules on Sunday night at Sport-O-Rama. An impressive showing from the team’s freshmen helped catapult the Roadrunners to their first win.
Freshmen Keith Doherty and Dan Demarco opened up the scoring early in the 1st period with their first-ever collegiate goals, giving the Roadrunners a quick 2-0 lead. Goaltender Keith Gay kept the Mules off the board during the 1st period with an impressive stop on a shorthanded scoring attempt. Ramapo dominated possession during the opening period, boasting 16 SOG to Muhlenberg’s six.
DJ Campbell added to the tally at 13:20 in the 2nd, off an assist from freshman Kyle DeBel. After falling to a 0-3 deficit, Muhlenberg then rallied back with a pair of power play goals and a following goal at even strength to tie the score up heading into the 3rd period.
The Roadrunners returned to the ice with a vengeance and retook the lead when Dan Demarco scored the go-ahead goal, his second of the night, which would also prove to be the game winner.
