Ramapo survives penalties, beats Muhlenberg, 7-3

MONSEY, NY – A four-goal third period and solid penalty killing lead Ramapo to a 7-3 victory over Muhlenberg.

MuhlenbergThe Ramapo College Ice Hockey Club team was looking to earn its first win as an active program. The win was 7-6 on February 26, 1984 against Marist College. The Roadrunners won the game 7-3 despite 8 penalties.

Muhlenberg College got on the board first at 3:06 of the first period. Sam Amon from Billy Rafferty put the Mules up 1-0. Ramapo answered back at 14:36 as junior defenseman Marc Concato scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1.

Ramapo would take the lead 29 seconds into the second period, as freshman forward Dmitry Danilchik scored the Roadrunners’ second goal of the game, assisted by freshman forward Pat Anzano. The second Ramapo goal of the period was scored by sophomore assistant captain Matt Rose at 7:22 to put the Roadrunners up 3-1. Junior defenseman Andre Vicari provided the assist on the goal. Despite 5 minor penalties in the period, Ramapo stopped all power play chances.

The Roadrunners began to pull away early in the third period when sophomore assistant captain Josh Filipovits scored at 3:46 to increase the Roadrunners lead to 4-1. Goalie Keith Gay and sophomore forward Andrew Galascio were credited with assists. Vicari scored an unassisted goal at 5:42 to put the Roadrunners up by four. Ramapo kept pouring it on as forward Chris Mecca lengthened the Roadrunners lead to 6-1 on a goal at 10:48. Galascio was credited with his second assist of the game. Down 6-1 with only 8:27 remaining in the game, Muhlenberg kept fighting back. Billy Rafferty unassisted goal cut the Roadrunner lead to 6-2. Galascio scored the Roadrunners’ seventh goal of the game, with assists by Mecca and Concato at 14:33. The final goal of the game was scored by Muhlenberg’s forward Tyler Tavormina at 15:25.

Seven different Ramapo players scored goals in the 7-3 victory. Ramapo’s penalty killing was outstanding, stopping all six power play attempts by Muhlenberg.

The team is back in action on Sunday, October 11 against Suffolk in Dix Hills, NY.
