MONSEY, NY – Keith Gay turned back 49 Fordham shots for his second shutout in as
many night. It was the junior goaltender’s third shutout of the season.
The Roadrunners jumped off to an early lead as defenseman Marc Concato scored a power play goal from the left point. His slapshot through a screen of Ramapo and Fordham players found the back of the Rams net. Keith Henning and Nolan Ouelette received assists on the play. The period ended with Ramapo taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Fordham dominated the second period. But time and time again, Gay turned back all 22 Rams shots. He was required to make some spectacular saves. The score remained 1-0 in Ramapo’s favor as the third period began.
The teams had many scoring opportunities but both goalies came up big. Ramapo’s scrappy forward Matt Rose solidified Ramapo’s lead with an unassisted goal at 13:21. Fordham did not relent. They applied constant pressure on the Ramapo net. They pulled their goalie with 2:30 remaining in the third period. But strong defensive play helped Gay earn his third shutout of the season.
This is the second hard-fought game the two teams played against each other this season. The Roadrunners scored a 3-2 shoot win against the Rams in game 7 on October 25.
Ramapo’s next game is Saturday, February 6 at home against Columbia.
