MAHWAH, NJ – 3 third period goals and outstanding goaltending by Keith Gay gives Ramapo their first win over NJIT 5-2. Gay stopped 50 of 52 Highlanders shots.
Both teams played Stanley Cup playoff style hockey to start the game. NJIT drew first blood when David Ferrero opened the scoring at 9:06. Strong goaltending at both ends stopped good scoring opportunities. Kyle DeBel knotted the score 1-1 at 16:25, assisted by Josh Filipovits. The Roadrunners would take the lead at 19:13 on Marc Concato’s slapshot from the left point. Anthony Carudo assisted on the power play goal. Ramapo took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
NJIT took the play to Ramapo in the second period outshooting the Roadrunners 22 to 9. Michael Crincoli tied the score at 13:52. Outstanding goaltending by Keith Gay limited the Highlanders to a single score stopping 21 shots.
The third period was all Ramapo scoring three unanswered goals. Kyle DeBel scored the game winner, his second goal of the game, on an assist by DJ Campbell at 6:37. Less than two minutes later, Zack O’Connor added an insurance goal at 8:21. Keith Henning and Keith Doherty picked up assists. A frustrated NJIT team couldn’t muster a comeback. Keith Doherty finished off the scoring with a power play goal at 15:44 assisted by Filipovits and Carudo.
