DIX HILLS, NY – Ramapo advanced to the MCHC championship game with a 5-2 victory over Yale. It was the third time the Roadrunners defeated the Bulldogs this season. A hat trick by Kyle DeBel and outstanding goaltending by Keith Gay, led a strong team effort by Ramapo.

Ramapo set the early tempo. With just 1:50 gone in the first period, Kyle DeBel stole the puck at the right faceoff circle, skated hard toward the net and deaked the goaltender right, moved left and put the puck behind the Bulldog’s goalie. Just 1:08 later, the first line put on a beautiful display of moving the puck around in front of the Yale net. Bob Spetz snapped a pass from the right dot to Dan Demarco who shot the puck point blank. The Yale goalie made the save but left a rebound. Debel slammed the puck home for his second goal of the period at 3:08. Spetz and Demarco received assists. Yale mounted a comeback and both teams played evenly until the Bulldogs cut the lead in half. A shot from the left point was tipped past Gay. Ramapo was up 2-1 going into the locker room. Shots on goal were even at 14.

Yale tallied the only goal in the second period. A Ramapo giveaway in front of the net proved a costly mistake. Yale tied the score at 2 at 8:47. Although the score was tied, two Yale major penalties for blows to the head proved to be their ultimate downfall. Both were players were ejected from the game in two separate instances.

A tired Yale teams fell prey to the Roadrunners early in the third period. Debel stole the puck in front of the Yale net and backhanded the puck into the net. The goal at :21 completed the hat trick for DeBel, his fourth of the season. That goal was a devastating blow for Yale. Ramapo would ice the game at the 13:22 mark. Keith Doherty and Ryan Worth worked the puck to Spetz who fired the puck in to the upper right corner over the goaltenders catching glove. To add insult to injury, Zack O’Connor scored from Matt Rose just :47 later giving the Roadrunners a convincing 5-2 victory.

Goalie Keith Gay made some outstanding saves to keep the Bulldogs off the board. Ramapo outshot Yale 45-34.

The victory advanced the Roadrunners to the Championship game against Suffolk. Suffolk eliminated Fordham in overtime 7-6 in the second game of the double header. The championship game is slated for 4:00 back in Dix Hills.
