RAMAPO CRUSHES COLUMBIA, 14-3

MOUNT VERNON, NY – Ramapo hammered Columbia with 65 shots on goal en route to a

14-3 rout. Matt Clark made his first collegiate start in goal to earn his first victory. All fourteen Ramapo skaters earned at least one point. Kyle DeBel lead all scorers with three goals and three assists. Keith Henning also had a hat trick.

The Roadrunners opened the scoring at 3:21 when Keith Doherty’s shot from the right point was tipped in by Kyle DeBel. Matt Rose also received an assist. Less than three minutes later Keith Henning scored an unassisted goal from the top of the left faceoff circle. The Lions cut the score in half at 13:14 when Ryan Blake stole the puck at the Ramapo blue line and fired a snapshot from the left faceoff circle over Matt Clarke’s catching glove. 40 seconds later, Keith Doherty gave Ramapo back a two goal lead. He stole the puck in front of the Columbia net and buried the puck into the upper right corner of the net. Matt Rose scored the fourth goal of the period on a power play. DeBel picked-up an assist at 19:28. Ramapo outshot Columbia 22-2 in the opening session.

Sloppy play by the Roadrunner in the first half of the second period led to Columbia’s second goal. A pile-up in front of the Ramapo net slipped past Clark at 9:24. From that point on Ramapo woke up and dominated the play the rest of the way. Henning scored his second goal of the game from the left point at 14:57 on an assist by Ethan Puso. That was Ramapo’s second power play goal of the night. With less than two minutes to go in the second period, three goals were scored in a matter of 43 seconds. At 18:02, DeBel deked the Lions goalie to the left post and slipped a pass to Josh Filipovits who slammed the puck into the empty net. An unforced error in front of the Ramapo net just seven seconds later gave Columbia their third goal. Ramapo stormed right back. Ryan Worth scored the final goal of the period in a scramble in front of the Columbia net at 18:45. Andrew Vicari assisted on the play. Despite a sloppy second period, Ramapo took a 7-3 lead into the third period.

The Roadrunners totally controlled the third period. 23 shots on goal produced seven Ramapo goals. Columbia could only manage 2 shots on goal. Dan Demarco opened the third period scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal at 2:24. Henning completed his first career hat trick with a slap shot just inside the blue line at 8:18. Demarco and Zach O’Connor combined to assist on the goal. Marc Concato and Matt Rose fed Kyle DeBel with passes deep in the Ramapo end. DeBel skated the length of the ice and screamed a snap shot into the far corner of the Columbia net from twenty feet out at 10:15. At 15:07, Filipovits scored his second goal of the game on assists from DeBel and Doherty. 26 seconds later, Demarco and Danilchik set up O’Connor for Ramapo’s twelfth goal. Team Captain, Anthony Carudo broke a 16 game draught with his first goal of the season at 17:42. Bob Spetz got the assist. Just 48 seconds later DeBel capped the Ramapo scoring when he drove the puck just under the crossbar for his third goal of the game. Filipovits picked up an assist.

The team takes a 16-1 record into the winter break. Play begins on January 14, 2017 when the Roadrunners visit the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College. The team and staff want to wish everyone a safe and joyous holiday season and a very Happy News Year. See you all next year.
